Scotland is looking at eye health as part of a consultation about warnings for tanning salons.
The government is looking at warnings to be issued in tanning centres which would tell users about the risks to their health, including their eyesight.
According to the Herald, suggestions include informing people that as well as being linked to skin cancer, sun beds can damage eyes.
Unprotected eyes may suffer from conjunctivitis or irritation as well as the increased risk of cataracts.
Providing tanning services to young people under 18 and unstaffed tanning salons are already illegal in Scotland but the government wants more action to let people know the risks.
It is therefore consulting the public about what warnings should be issued.
Recently, the BBC reported that a trial is being carried out in Wales for a community-based system of treating glaucoma.
According to health minister Edwina Hart, the programme may reduce the need for patients to go into hospitals.
Hospitals and diagnostic units communicate electronically under the system which is hoped eventually to be rolled out over the whole country.
