Robert Karlsson bounces back from eye injury nightmare
09.02.2010
By Adrian Galbreth

Robert Karlsson rocketed back to form as he bounced back from a career-threatening eye condition to win golf`s Qatar Masters.

The Swede overcame the threat of Lee Westwood to claim a three-stroke victory on Sunday.

Karlsson`s last title was the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2008 when he was named European number one.

Soon after, though, he began to suffer from blurred vision due to fluid behind the retina in his left eye.

The condition affected his balance and his judgment so that things like telling how far away trees were became impossible.

His bogey-free final round of 65 was seven under par and Karlsson was more pleased about the nature of his win than the win itself as he put an unfortunate 2009 behind him.

He said: "The focus this year was to come back and start to put together good rounds and then a string of good rounds. It`s fantastic to win, but to play four really good rounds together, that`s the most satisfying."ADNFCR-1853-ID-19595861-ADNFCR
