An awareness campaign by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) takes place in October.
Eye Health Week, taking place from October 6th to 12th, will help to inform the public about the importance of regular eye tests. It is backed by the Eye Health Alliance (EHA).
EHA spokesperson Heather Marshall said: "This is an exciting initiative which is helping to drive home the message that eye health is important for all."
People who wear
contact lenses should keep regular appointments with their opticians to ensure their prescription in up to date.
They should be aware, however, that they can save money by buying
cheap contact lenses over the internet rather than from the high street.
Regular eye tests can also reveal underlying health issues, such as the onset of diabetes.
Recently, the RNIB stated that the government should offer everyone screening for diabetic retinopathy, not just those with diabetes.
